"I am basically a plein air painter, but I choose the subject and feel no need to paint it literally. I feel that I must paint my feelings for the subject and to make the painting attractive and balanced through the use of color, value, edge treatment and composition. Always keeping in mind that I will not return with the actual subject but my interpretation of that scene and it must stand on its own. Weather and the need for larger works

demand painting in the studio but the experience gained by painting in plein air allow a spontaneous approach to these pieces.
